When you set your sights on some fresh new suits, it’s important to set a budget. If you’re able to end your shopping spree under budget, it’s even better. A friend of mine was able to do that and knows how to dress sharp for cheap.

Dave Jordan, who works in television for a living, was able to do that. He set out with the mindset of spending somewhere around $300 and paid…wait for it…just $161.53. For real!

“I started noticing the price drop,” he said.

“I got five dress shirts for work and a jacket. Shirts were $60, marked down to $22, $24 and at the register, they dropped to like $15. The jacket was $60 and I think that fell to $45."

This wasn’t some cheap store. He went shopping at major retail department store Dillard’s and pulled off this amazing deal. Specifically, this was a Dillard’s Clearance Center location in Tampa, Fl where he said everything inside the store is for sale.

Dave was determined to find good discounts to maximize the amount of clothes he was able to buy. He even called me to ask for advice, but he found that Dillard’s had great deals, a store I didn’t even consider. So, here’s how he did it:

  1. He set a good budget for himself and knew he would come out winning no matter what as long as he stayed below his mark.

  2. Researching. He reached out to me, looked online and tried different stores before making purchases. He insisted on finding the best deal to help him find the clothes that would make him look good, but also not break his bank.

  3. USING CLEARANCE SALES. Don’t mean to yell at you, but I can’t stress this enough. Many stores have clearance racks and that’s usually the first place I look when I go to certain stores. Sometimes you will find deals so good they will feel like steals. For certain stores, they have such great clearance racks, I pretty much refuse to buy anything full price. I didn’t know Dillard’s was one of those stores, but Dave found it. And, he found a location where the entire location is a clearance store, which I hadn’t heard of before. Dave says check for the clearance stores in your area.

  4. Don’t give up. If you’re determined to buy some new clothes, but don't see the right deals then don’t force yourself to buy something. Check out different stores and see what they have to offer. Sometimes, you’ll find that the exact same stores have different deals at different malls. One Dillard’s location might have amazing deals while another one might not.

  5. Check online. Sometimes items will be priced lower online and stores normally do price matches in these cases.
