Men around my age and older have been to enough weddings to know what to wear. Nonetheless, many of us were all still stumped at what to wear to a recent beach wedding in Honduras. Beach attire and wedding attire couldn’t be further apart on the list of things you wear. And, really that can help answer the question of what to wear. You can be creative and wear a wide number of things - anywhere from formal to casual or a mix. At the wedding, there were men clothed in full dress suits, shoes included. Others wore short sleeve collared shirts and khakis. I decided to wear a button down with a blazer, white shorts and beach appropriate shoes that matched the occasion perfectly.
One guest told me I nailed it and said a lot of people felt the same way. It was all about putting in a little bit of extra effort and taking a risk.

But, the men dressed in full suits were also very dapper and they didn’t seem to mind the sand getting on their shoes and bottom of their pants. So, here are some of the main tips to the right beach wedding attire for men: 1. First, see if the bride or groom have any recommendations. They might want you to wear certain colors, avoid wearing certain colors or dress in a certain style. If so, they’ll usually put it out there in the invitation, but it doesn’t hurt to double check with them. Plus, that takes away some of the work of figuring out what to do. 2. Don’t be afraid to wear something laid back. My mix between formal and laid back went over well. Everyone seemed to be comfortable and happy with what they wore. 3. Shoes: I would hate for some nice dress shoes to get all sandy. I recommend finding footwear more conducive to sand. I found what's called espadrilles! They are the perfect beach friendly shoes that are a bit more fancy than some other styles. They're more common with women, but there are some great styles for men as well. You could also wear some Sperry's or other slide on shoes, but no sandals unless approved by the wedding party. And, once again, nothing wrong with going all decked out if you're comfortable getting sand on nice shoes. 4. Ties: I preferred going without one, but wearing a tie would work fine. 5. Wear lighter colors and fabric. Don’t forget, it’s a beach wedding so there’s potential for it to be really hot. Wearing a cooler color like light brown or baby blue would be perfect. Also, seer sucker suits and other lighter fabrics are ideal. The wedding I attended started at 4:30 p.m. so it was much cooler outside. 6. Don’t forget the goal is to be financially fresh. I always recommend checking to see what you already have in your closet. I spent money on the shoes and shorts, but everything else was already in my closet. And, the two items I did purchase are things I plan to wear for a long time.
